EDITORIAL: Huawei is back with another shot at "world's best camera-phone" title. The company has adopted a full self-reliance approach in both hardware (Kirin chip, screen protective glass, camera design) and software (moving it's OS away from Google dependence) and seems to be back to finding excellence. With Pura 80 Ultra, Huawei brings the first in the smartphone photography: two different periscope telephoto lenses that share one sensor. The rest of imaging setup is stellar and will get you photos as good as any top 2025 phone. The processor, battery and software remain Pura's weaknesses.
PROs
more competitive pricing then Pura 70 Ultra, great build quality, solid (midrange) Kirin 9020 performance, sub-50min 100W (80W wireless) charging of the 5700mAh Li battery, IP69 protection, outstanding 50MP 1" sensor main camera with f/1.6-4.0 OIS PDAF + 50MP 83mm and 12.5MP 212mm two lens PDAF OIS periscope telephoto + 40MP AF ultrawide + 13MP 13mm AF ultrawide setup, 13MP 21mm PDAF selfie, top video recording, a DeX-like desktop replacement functionality and fast USB-C 3.2 port with OTG and Display Port 1.2
CONs
lack of Google apps out of the box, future-software-update concerns, wider and heavier (76.1mm, 233gr) body, mediocre performance for a "Ultra" label, non-Si 5700mAh with barely 24hr endurance, sub-1300nits screen with no Dolby Vision or HDR10+, lack of expandable memory storage,

EDITORIAL: Like clockwork, Vivo took 6 months to bring a V60 update but this time the improvements are massive. V70 is almost 3mm narrower (!) and comes with a metal frame, same big battery, higher res screen and much faster memory. Processor and cameras are the same. Vivo is again positioning the V series at the top of the midrange world with a true and tried formula (great battery life + bright screen + reliable imaging).
PROs
narrower and better built with a more premium feel, fast UFS 4.1 memory, >30hr endurance from a 6500mAh Si/C Lithium battery with sub-60min 90W charging, >1900nits bright 450ppi AMOLED screen with HDR10+ certification, IP69 protection, very good 50MP 23mm OIS PDAF main + 50MP 85mm OIS PDAF periscope telephoto + an okay 8MP 15mm ultrawide setup, excellent 50MP 21mm AF selfie, Zeiss tech on all cameras, up to 4 years of updates of mature OriginOS
CONs
good SD 7 Gen 4 performance may not not be enough after 2 or 3 years of AI feature updates, no wireless charging, non-LTPO screen tech, no AF on a 8MP ultrawide, no expandable memory or Video out on a slow USB-C 2.0 port
