EDITORIAL: On August 25th Sony announced another iteration of it's Xperia 10 series - the low-end midranger that brings no updates over the last year's model except slightly better endurance and considerably h higher price. Does anyone remember the 10 III, a narrower phone that broke endurance records? Sony is not only refusing to invest in software development - for some reason, they can't even keep the hardware going...

PROs
attractive build, >1400nits bright 420ppi 120Hz OLED screen, IP68 protection, expandable memory slot, 4 year OS update promise
CONs
same SD 6 Gen 3 chip with UFS 3.1 performance, same old-tech 5000mAh lithium battery with 24hr endurance and >90min slow 30W charging, no LTPO or even variable screen refresh rate to prolong poor endurance and no HDR10 or better, same stripped down Android version with no software improvment, no desktop replacement, slow USB-C 2.0, concern about Sony's lack of investment into innovation (they used to excel at)

Both phones here were scored by me, using the same ten categories, with no ads, sponsorships, or manufacturer relationships — this comparison is as objective and honest as it gets.
