EDITORIAL: After years of following Apple's lead with less innovation and more of trying to lock it's customers into the Samsung ecosystem, world's biggest phone maker is waking up again. The massive change doesn't stop with adoption of Silicone Carbon anode battery tech, it expands to new phones like this wide-fold model and the expected S27 Pro phone sometime early next year. Innovation effort is back and that's exactly what we should celebrate. The strange naming solution shouldn't confuse you - Z Fold 8 is not an upgrade of the Z Fold 7 - this is a brand new phone type in format invented by Huawei (Pura X Max, May 2026) and expected to also be adopted by Apple's first foldable phone in Sep 2026. As a first time effort, the Z Fold 8 shines with excellent build and screens and a mature software experience that includes DeX as well. But there is more good news: endurance is easily a full day and can go to proper 36hrs when the phone is used unfolded.

PROs
excellent build, fast SD 8 Elite Gen 5 with UFS 4.0 performance, >30hrs endurance from a 4800mAh Si-C battery with sub-70min slow 45W (20W wireless) charging, 2 >1400nits bright >400ppi 120Hz LTPO AMOLED screens (inner one is HDR10+ too), water immersion IP48 protection, very good photos from a 50MP 23mm OIS PDAF main + 50MP 13mm PDAF ultrawide setup, 2 non-AF selfies with good performance (but use the main camera for excellent selfies), 7 years of OneUI updates loaded with AI and other features, DeX computer replacement functionality, fast USB-C 3.2 port
CONs
average video recording, no memory expansion, stereo speakers lack power, no stylus support, expensive

EDITORIAL: (this is a pre-test listing based on reasonable expectation of battery and imaging performance) After China only release, Vivo made an international release of its top foldable on Oct 1st. Featuring the biggest battery and (inner) screen on a foldable, the Fold 6 lands somewhere at the top of 2026 lineup - a serious consideration if available in your market.

PROs
excellent build, fast (top of last gen) Dimensity 9500 Super (3nm) with UFS 4.1 performance, 36hr endurance from a 6900mAh Si-C battery with sub-60min 80W 40W wireless charging, 2 >1300nits >400ppi 120Hz LTPO screens with Dolby Vision, (immersible) IP69 protection, great pics from a 200MP OIS main + 50MP OIS periscope telephoto + 50MP ultrawide (all PDAF) setup, 2 20MP 31mm selfies, good video recording, feature rich and stabile OriginOS with 5 years of OS updates, desktop replacement functionality bundled with Android 17, fast USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with Display Port
CONs
no AF on selfies but on foldable you can use the main camera for selfies, no expandable memory slot, limited market availability
