EDITORIAL: The V40 Pro punches above it's weight - it is a big upgrade of V30 Pro and signals Vivo's big ambitions for the midrange V line. The build is lovely - a 7.6mm thick glass-sandwich, processor is flagship grade Mediatec, there is reverse wireless charging, very reliable 4 50MP camera setup and V40 Pro could be the first phone to spot IP69 protection (months before arrival of OnePlus 13).
PROs
very thin, fast Mediatec 9200+ with UFS 3.1 performance, >30hr endurance from a 5500mAh Si-C battery with sub-45min 80W charging, 1300nits bright 450ppi AMOLED screen with HDR10+, IP69 protection, flagship grade imaging from a 50MP 24mm main + 50MP 50mm tele (both with OIS PDAF) + 50MP 15mm AF ultrawide (all with Zeiss optics) and a ring-LED flash setup, excellent 50MP 21mm AF selfie, very good video recording (from the main camera), stabile and feature rich Funtouch OS and a very good speaker system sound
CONs
plastic frame is not everyone's cup, no wireless charging, no expandable memory, short OS support, no desktop replacement feature, slow USB-C 2.0, limited market availability

EDITORIAL: (this is a pre-test listing based on reasonable expectation of battery, screen and imaging performance) Vivo took a bit longer then their usual 6 months to produce an upgrade of excellent V70. This time, the chip and cameras are the same, battery got a 700mAh boost, screen is 144Hz (from 120Hz) but a significant change is in memory: it tops at 8GB (was up to 12GB) and a 128GB model is introduced to throw us back to 2025 V60 times. Zeiss branded lenses should still deliver top pics among midrangers but Vivo decided to compete on price and sacrifice some quality.
PROs
attractive iPhone-Pro-copy design, good build, good SD 7 Gen 4 (4nm) with UFS 4.1 (3.1 on 128GB version) performance, >30hr endurance from a 7200mAh Si-C battery with sub-60min 90W charging, >1700nits 460ppi 144Hz AMOLED screen with HDR10+, IP69 protection, very good 50MP 23mm main + 50MP 73mm periscope telephoto (both OIS PDAF) + sub-par 8MP 15mm ultrawide setup, excellent 50MP 21mm PDAF selfie, up to 4 years of stabile OriginOS updates
CONs
SD 7 Gen 4 may struggle to deliver good performance after a few OS updates, no LTPO tech and higher refresh rate deny what could have been stellar battery endurance, no AF on a below average ultrawide, average video recording, no expandable memory, no desktop replacement functionality, slow USB-C 2.0 port (with OTG)
