EDITORIAL: Google's top phone for 2024 is an unusual combo of the best software and compromised hardware. 9 Pro XL is a pleasure to use it you don't know you could do better. Processor and memory speed, battery endurance, even cameras are compromised for some reason. Like other Pixel phones (and unlike Apple and Samsung) availability is limited to only some markets - another surprise from world's biggest phone software maker...
PROs
flagship build, attractive body and camera bump design, excellent >2200nits bright and 485ppi sharp LTPO OLED screen with HDR10+ talents, IP68 protection, (almost) flagship grade photography from 50MP 25mm OIS main + 48MP 113mm OIS telephoto + 48MP 12mm ultrawide (all with dual-pixel PDAF), excellent 42MP 17mm PDAF selfie, very good video recording, clean and AI feature rich OS with a 7 years of updates promise, Emergency SOS service (in some markets) and a fast USB-C 3.2 port
CONs
one of the biggest phones at 76.6mm and 220g, current midrange processor performance makes one wonder how will it perform after 4 or 5 years of AI and other updates, barely a day (24hr) endurance from a 5060mAh Lithium battery (tiny for a phone this size) with a 80min slow 45W (12W wireless) charging, no SD memory expansion Video Out or desktop replacement functionality, limited market availability

EDITORIAL: Oppo's midrange Reno phones are known for great battery life and very competent camera setups and Reno 15 is no exception. Oppo decided to save you money by fitting in a huge battery and using a cheaper non-LTPO screen. Cameras cover all basis with a main, telephoto and ultrawide plus an excellent selfie shooter. The last year's SD 7 Gen 4 processor will do the job and don't expect a SD memory expansion (Oppo removed that feature from Reno line last year) but otherwise this is a top-midrange phone if price is right.
PROs
very solid aluminium and glass build, good SnapDragon 7 Gen 4 with UFS 3.1 performance, excellent >42hr endurance from a 6500mAh battery with sub-60min 80W charging, sub-1300nits 460ppi AMOLED screen with HDR10+, IP69 protection, very reliable 50MP 26mm main + 50MP 80mm telephoto (both with OIS PDAF) + 8MP 15mm AF ultrawide, excellent 50MP 18mm AF selfie, 5 years of OS updates, generous retail package that usually includes a charger and a case
CONs
flat side frame is not as comfortable to use, no wireless charging, no SD memory expansion, no desktop replacement functionality, slow USB-C 2.0 port (tho it offers OTG)
